The Poker Loser’s Mentality
There are losers everywhere, and they’re pretty easy to spot. It happens all the time when I’m playing games such as texas holdem, and I know that you’ve seen it too. I’ll be sitting at an online poker table, having a great time, and as the dealer starts sliding the cards out. Every time there’s someone who immediately starts complaining about the cards lying in front of him. Let’s see what kind of lessons we can learn from our whiny friend. First off, the guy who starts whining about his poker hand before he gets all his cards has a loser’s mentality. Even before he knows the situation he thinks that he’s screwed. It says quite a bit about a gambler when he’s planning on losing, but mostly it says he’s going to lose. There’s a difference between knowing that you’ve got a losing hand and giving up before you’ve seen the whole picture. Watch the cards that you can see and plan around them, don’t just quit the second you see a low card. There’s always an out, and if you can’t find it, there’s no shame in ducking out and going for it in the next hand. If you’re gambling and you’re thinking more about losing than you are about winning, then it’s probably time to take a break.
