Powerful Words – Easily Misleading Conversations

Friday, January 30th, 2009

“Can you please pick that up for me? -No, not that. THAT!”

Yep, I am one of those. One that uses pronoun instead of words. It drives my husband crazy. But hey, he does it too! It’s incomprehensible, it’s incoherent, and sometimes it even creates conflict.

There are several ways to communicate and one of them is verbal. Unfortunately most of us, time to time will not come across as we intended. Conscientiousness and practice is needed for solid and strong communication. Let see how we can avoid misleading conversations.

When you engage in a conversation, ensure that you are following these concepts:

  • Ditch the pronouns. Use words that will describe well the meaning of your thoughts without using too many refine words. Use words according to your audience.

  • Organize your thoughts before blurting them out. It will be easier to understand the first time around. You may be able to avoid the double or triple explanation. And yes, it’s worth the small amount of time it will take. Try it.

  • Use repetition, analogies, or examples to reinforce your ideas.

  • Don’t tell the person to pay more attention and don’t ask the person if they understand. Ask what the person understood so far.

    When you listen

  • Listen. Provide feedback indicating understanding.

  • Ask questions if you don’t understand; once they are done talking.

  • Don’t fill in words by anticipating what the person is going to say.

  • Suspend your judgment and maintain eye contact.

    Another point to consider

  • Words are powerful. Choose carefully.

    Words like:

    HATE should become DISLIKE

    PROBLEMS should become SITUATIONS

ALWAYS and NEVER should become OFTEN and SELDOM

    I CAN’T should become I WILL

YOU (accusatory) should become I (take a stand)

NICE could become GOOD, KIND, FRIENDLY, WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, FAVORITE, AND FANTASTIC

It’s not easy, so practice, practice, practice and think.

    ==========================================================

“When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.” -Ernest Hemingway

“One of the basic causes for all the trouble in the world today is that people talk too much and think too little. They act impulsively without thinking. I always try to think before I talk.” -Margaret Chase Smith

“The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention… A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words.” -Rachel Naomi Remen

Targeted Traffic – How Will You Achieve It?

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Wouldn’t it be great if your website was listed on the first page when your potential customers look for what you sell?

What if you had the very top position when they typed “your product category” into MSN, Yahoo or Google?

If you’ve had your website up for even one week, you’ve realized that getting to the top of the search engines is no easy task. The competition is fierce, isn’t it? And you have to constantly keep up with the search engine rules and regulations to keep your listing.

Don’t get us wrong. Search Engine Optimization is a key to our strategy and should be for you, too.

(We’ve seen some internet “gurus” out there that teach that you don’t need to submit to the search engines anymore because of “pay-per-click” engines. We couldn’t disagree more & recommend you stay away from such advice!)

But getting to the top of the free listings can take months. What do you do if you need to start making money now?

USE “PAY-PER-CLICK” ADVERTISING!

We feel there has never been a greater way for the “little guy” to compete with the “big guys”. It doesn’t matter what industry or niche you are in. Or what product or service you are offering.

Yes, you do have to put out a little cash. But for as little as $.05 to $.10, you can do what every website owner is desperately trying to figure out.

Have you ever heard the saying, “Build it & they will come?” In the brick and mortar world, this may work. But if that is your internet marketing strategy – You need to adjust what you’re doing now!

As a website owner, you need to find ways to have your customers find you. You must learn to drive traffic to your site.

Not just any traffic, TARGETED TRAFFIC. If you sell cars, you don’t want someone looking for flowers to visit your site. You want the person looking to buy a car now, right?

OK, how does this Pay-Per-Click thing work?

You bid on a specific “keyword” or keyword phrase that a customer would type into a search engine to find your product or service. As mentioned earlier, you could bid as low as $.05 or $.10 at places like Overture or Google. So if someone likes the ad you have listed, clicks your ad and is linked to your site, you only pay your $.10 or $.25 or $.50 – whatever you bid, you only pay if they actually click YOUR ad and go to YOUR website!

You have control of that ad. So you make it loaded with info that would cause only someone interested in what you have to offer to actually click. You must get inside your prospect’s head and figure out “What does this person really want?”

- (Ad copy is an art in and of itself – We’ll need to postpone discussing that subject for a later time)

Once that person arrives at your site, it’s up to you to make sure your site really “sings” and compels your prospect to sign up for your mailing list, buy or whatever it is you want them to do.

But do you see the beauty of all this? You find out what keywords your prospects are looking up, you bid on those keywords and Bam! – YOUR AD APPEARS AT THE TOP OF MSN, YAHOO, GOOGLE, etc.

These are qualified prospects! People interested in buying only what you have to offer. Never before in history has it been possible for a business owner to start a business, place an ad and get QUALIFIED buyers so quickly; at such a minimal cost to the owner!

Imagine it costing you $.25 or $.50 to attract a prospect to your site. Let’s say you offer a product selling for $75. How often would you like to give us $.25 every time we gave you $75? Can you see how quickly you can have a thriving internet business up & running?

We recommend starting at pay-per-click engines like www.Overture.com, www.Findwhat.com and Google adwords. It would be wise to go there and review their guidelines and how they operate.

If you invest the time necessary to master this subject and add it as another “spoke” to your advertising “wheel”, you will see not only a huge surge in your website traffic, but your profits as well.

And, ultimately, that’s what you’re really after, isn’t it?

What Do You Want in Life?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

“What do you want in life?”

How often do you ask yourself this question? Do you ever ask yourself this question? Why is it that we’ll sacrifice our time, energy and happiness for another’s well being, but we won’t put that same energy into our own happiness. Have you forgotten over the years what truly makes you happy, what little things bring you joy? Sometimes we end up living a life we thought others wanted us to live, instead of a life we were meant to live. Are you going through the motions, just for the sake of ‘getting by’? That is fine as long as you understand by doing so you will continue to get the same results. That being a life where you are going along for the ride instead of choosing which ride you want to go on. Are you ready to live your life, to embrace the “little moments” that bring you joy? All you need is the desire, commitment and drive to take control of your life again.

ACTION TIPS FOR THE WEEK:

1. Create a list

The first thing you need to do is brainstorm a list of everything and anything that brings you joy. What would you love to incorporate into your life? What do you want more of in your life? This is your life, so commit to living a life embracing what you truly enjoy and feel passionate about.

2. What changes need to be made?

In order to create what you do want in your life, you need to make room for it. What obligations do you have that create more stress than joy? Decide what you can let go of in order to plug in the activities you enjoy. Decide if you need to get rid of the obligations all together or delegate them to someone else.

3. Create support structure

In order to succeed, you need a supportive environment. Make sure your significant other and/or friends know what you need from them. Having a support team will make a world of difference in your long term outcome.

Have a great week!

Is Your Competition Driving You Bananas?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

“Remember – if people talk behind your back, it only means you are two steps ahead.” - Fannie Flagg

This Sales Diva absolutely loves the above quote from Fannie Flagg! It happens every day doesn’t it?

In fact – it may even have happened to you at one point or another. You are working hard on your business, attracting customers, making sales…and then IT HAPPENS.

You see something in the paper that your competitor is doing….you hear an ad on the radio about them…or you lose a customer or prospect to the EVIL COMPETITOR and your stomach turns into knots.

You panic. You begin hyperventilating….all because of what some other business is doing. You frantically start thinking of how you can drop your prices, have a promotion, give away free cheese – anything to keep your competitor away!

Stay Away From Monkey Mind!

There is a phrase in Buddhism that refers to what happens when you allow distraction to take you over…

“A related metaphor is the allegory of a monkey stretching as far as he can to grab the reflection of the moon in water. He cannot understand that he is looking in the wrong place.”

I see many businesses jump into “monkey mind thinking” when they start worrying about their competitors.

Here’s some Sales Diva advice:

- Remember – unless your company is built upon having the cheapest prices – don’t worry about competitors charging less. There will always be SOMEONE playing that angle – do you really want to play in that arena?

- Be aware of what is happening with a competitor but don’t be a copy-cat.

- Be pro-active. Focus more on what your customer needs from you – if they don’t see the value in you – the first place they will go is PRICE.

- Complacency is YOUR BIGGEST COMPETITOR. Your customer can always choose to do….nothing and stay with the status quo. Have you ever done that?

- Chart your own course. Stay focused on your own goals, revenue objectives, marketing strategies. Survey your customers, treat them like gold – and they will remain loyal to you.

So the next time you feel a bad case of Monkey Mind coming on – take a deep breath and remember The Sales Diva words of wisdom.

Because worrying about the competition will only drive you bananas!

Vitamins Is There Such Thing as Too Much?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

You probably hear lots of information about the need to get sufficient amounts of vitamins in your daily diet, and to take a vitamin supplement if you aren’t getting those necessary vitamins. If vitamins are good for you, it stands to reason that more is better, right? Actually, overdoing it with vitamins can cause some problems as well. Take a look at some of the more common vitamins and what you can face by getting too much of a good thing.

Vitamin D – Vitamin D is readily available in milk and dairy products, but only those that have been Vitamin D fortified. There are some other sources of this vitamin, with tuna, salmon, sardines and mackerel among those with the higher contents. You also get Vitamin D from sunshine. A lack of Vitamin D causes bone problems, including rickets.

An overdose of Vitamin D will likely first let itself be known in the form of nausea. In extreme cases, loss of appetite, weakness and abnormal heart rhythm can occur.

Despite what some people may think, it’s unlikely that you can get an overdose of Vitamin D from the sun. Sunburn will show itself long before your body absorbs enough Vitamin D from the sunshine. Too much calcium in the diet can also cause problems with major organs, including the heart and kidneys.

Vitamin A – Vitamin A is often associated with the “orange” fruits and vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, oranges and carrots. There are other sources as well, mainly in fruits and vegetables. Vitamin A is good for vision, healthy skin and hair.

An overdose of Vitamin A can result is some serious health risks and will first be seen as headaches, vomiting, dizziness and a lack of coordination in the muscles. Most commonly, Vitamin A toxicity arises from consuming a huge amount of Vitamin A over a short period of time, usually in the form of vitamins as supplements. Damage to the central nervous system or liver, and birth defects are among the possible long-term effects of overdoses of Vitamin A.

Vitamin B – There are several vitamins that make up the group known as the B-Complex vitamins. B6 and B12 are among the more common of that group. Both are touted in connection with healthy hearts and maintaining a youthful appearance, but it’s important to note that there are some important differences in the toxicity potential for vitamins in this group. Notably, there have been few cases of B12 overdoses, especially cases that caused adverse symptoms.

By contrast, B6 typically can result in nerve damage. As a rule, the effects are reversed when the levels of B6 are brought back under control.

As a rule – As a rule, it’s difficult to consume sufficient amounts of vitamins to cause severe toxicity. Nausea will typically be your first clue to a problem. Talk to your doctor or health care professional before starting any vitamin regimen or making major changes to your diet.

Email Marketing Lesson: Starbucks, A Sexy Lady, And My Search For The Ezine

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

The other day I heard someone at a 6:00 am network meeting proclaim
– “I have an ezine!”

Still half asleep, and hopped up on my third cup of coffee, my mind raced to try to figure out what he was talking about. I remained silent and sent my best early morning grin the way of the self-declared ezine-ite and knew I had a task for later.

“What the heck was an ezine?” I thought. It sounded sort of like a European motor scooter or something but I did not want to embarrass myself like the time I thought SEM was some kinky couples thing, only to find out it was Search Engine Marketing. I had to switch networking groups after that incident…

So after the meeting I went to the only place where you find out
these sorts of things – Starbucks, during the day. Everyone knows that entrepreneurs that have a ‘home office’ really work from Starbucks. I even think Starbucks invented the concept to sell more fancy coffee drinks.

After ordering my latte I asked the barista if he knew what an
ezine was. He instantly blushed and turned towards the comfy chair section. I didn’t get it.

What did the comfy chairs have to do with —

And then I saw her….

The hair, the clothes, the face, she was the sexiest woman I had
ever seen.

She looked so familiar but I was sure I would have remembered
meeting someone who looked like her.

Feeling like my 4:30 am shower and one minute makeup session was
quite insufficient I turned back to the barista and mumbled, “What does she have to do with an ezine?..” but he was off blending some mocha, no whip, double shot of espresso adult-Slurpee and I found myself talking to a shelf overflowing with bags of coffee.

I grabbed my latte and headed to the comfy chairs and — the woman.

As I got closer I knew I had seen her before. But where?

She noticed me staring and smiled. “Hello, want to join me?,” she whispered. Her voice sounded like Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’.

I introduced myself and mentioned the barista told me the sexy lady could tell me what an ezine was.

She giggled like a sex kitten, leaned towards me and whispered,
“Can you keep a secret?”

A secret! This was getting exciting! I gulped back half my latte, burning my throat in the process and choked out a “Yes”. I knew I was getting close, this definitely had nothing to do with a European motor scooter! “Ok, ok,” I thought. “Tell me what the heck an ezine is!”

I closed my eyes in anticipation of finding the truth. I knew I was about to be enlightened. I held my breath – finally I would find out what an ezine was!

I waited, eyes closed, my heart beating in anticipation. I took a deep breath and squealed at the top of my lungs, “I am ready, tell me what an ezine is!”

But when I opened my eyes the sexy woman had vanished. Instead
there sat John Stossel. There was also everyone else in the
Starbucks all gathered around me thinking I had just experienced
some sort of caffeine-induced Kundalini awakening.

“You already know what an ezine is,” said John Stossel.

“I do?” I said, trying to assure my new audience I was mentally
stable.

And then in John’s reporter-like style he said, “An ezine is a
periodic electronically published newsletter or email newsletter.Sometimes they are posted on a website but most of the time they are sent via email or even RSS. Email newsletters were getting old so we cooked up a new, sexier name.”

And with that John Stossel vanished and the sexy lady appeared
again. My Starbucks audience all filed back to their comfy chairs and I sat there silent.

The milk frother hummed in the background and the sexy lady patted my hand. “Don’t worry about it. Beauty and value are on the inside…even with an ezine,” she said.

I took a long time to walk home that day. I had been duped by a
marketing gimmic. That guy at the 6:00 am network marketing meeting was bragging about his email newsletter!

I guess exclaiming to an audience of half-asleep business persons trying to remember if they had let the dog out before they came to the meeting, “I have an email newsletter!” would be kind of lame.

I felt different writing my weekly e-newsletter, um, er, ok, weekly ezine that afternoon. I felt more alive, kind of lighter. Would my readers notice the difference?

I had to promise the sexy lady that I would not reveal the secret that an ezine is simply an email newsletter so don’t tell anybody,ok?

Ezine does sound a lot sexier than ‘e-newsletter’ and we all know sexy sells.

Happiness-Marriage-Love-Divorce-Suicide-Peace Within-college

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Too many of us seem to think that there should be 24-7 happiness in our life,
so when there is problems in a marriage the temptation for affairs and divorce is there.

But where ever we are in our life, in or out of love, single or in a long term relationship or marriage,
there is no 24-7 happiness.

There are happy moments to cherish and to hold us through the trials.
Society has lead us to believe we should be happy and beautiful at all times
and with someone happy and beautiful at all times.

The most important thing to remember when we are sad, are have feelings of depression or suicidal thoughts,
is that we don’t know what the next moment will bring, perhaps the rainbow after the rain. Love could come at any moment,
life changes sometime suddenly, sometime over a long period of time.

Than there are those of us who dream.
But we don’t want to work to make our dreams come true.
We want them to magically happen, and when they don’t or we can’t reach them so often we give up on everything, when we should find a new dream, a new direction in life.

There is a old song that has great truth in it,
when you can’t be with the one you love the one you are with.
Each of us have hidden talents, love and friendship that can be given to others,if you see a lonely person,be a friend.
To have a friend,be a friend.

Loneliness ends where friendship begins.

Peace Within
In a search for peace within,
I have found some questions and a few answers.

Regrets
Have I any regrets?
1. List all regrets.
One side of regrets,
are things that have never been done?
Try to find a way to do them.
The other side of regrets are things done wrong.
Realize this was only a learning experience.
Time to move on.

Dreams
Can I have my dreams come true?
2.Realize which dreams are unattainable,
and which dreams are realistic.
List ways of making them come true.
Remember dreams don’t always come to you.
You have to go to them.
List realistic dreams and ways to obtain them.
What if I have failed?

Failure
List Failures.
Than list the learning experience.
Failures are a very important tool of life,
They make us stronger, and wiser

Advice to parents who’s child is entering college.

Make sure that your child has taken two foreign language credits ,so they will qualify for Tops scholarships.

Ask your high school counselor for applications for scholarships ,they rarely suggest that to you, your student has to inquire.

As long as your student has a 2.5 there are a lot of scholarships that your student may qualify for, starting this process should be in the 10th grade

. The sooner the better. There will be a new word in your vocabulary ,called purge,

The way to avoid finding out the definition of this word is to make sure all financially aid is taken care of in advance, also make sure classes are confirmed.

For those who will be living in a dorm make sure it is reserved. The Procrastinator will have problems.
Know the numbers of financialaid,comptrollers,admissions,housing.and
your college website.Be prepared.
Keep up with important information.
Be prepared for surprise financial problems ,such as the financial aid not coming though in time.

Classes will be purged which means cancelled for your student if there is a financial problem.

A student has to have at least a 2.0 to qualify for financial assistance, which is harder than it sounds, college classes run shorter and are more difficult the high school classes were for your child.

Nothing is discussed concerning your child with the parent. But the university will accept your money.

Counselors at college are there for the purpose of advising classes for the major your child chooses, they don’t advice them on other issues.

Very intellect students who excelled in high school can find that they struggle in college.

A student needs to developed good study skills.

College is very expensive and can lead to a huge financial loans that will have to be repaid.

It’s a hard struggle for both students and parents.

When one fails ,encourage them to seek a new direction for failure is not the end of the world.

The hardest thing there is for a parent is to let your child go,let them have their own experiences ,successes and failures, both good and bad,and learn from them and become strong responsible independent adults.

A college education is not for everyone, some have succeeded well without a formal education, but it does open doors of opportunities

How To Walk On The Path Of Peace (Part 6 of 6)

Monday, January 19th, 2009

>From the beginning of time, people, in spite of their needs, in the midst of all their attachment to material things, have been intuitively conscious of the limited, transient, and illusionary nature of their material existence, and in their wise and silent moments have tried to reach out into an understanding of the Infinite.

And here is the common ground of faith; ” that we are essentially and spiritually divine and eternal, and that, immersed in mortality and troubled with conflict and turmoil, we are ever striving to enter into a consciousness of our true nature.

The spirit of humanity is inseparable from the Infinite, and is not at peace until the oneness is experienced again. As the smallest drop of water detached from the ocean, contains all the qualities of the ocean, so are you, detached in consciousness from the Infinite, containing within yourself its likeness; and as the drop of water must, by the law of nature, ultimately find its way back to the ocean and lose itself in its silent depths, so must you, by the unfailing law of nature, at last return to your source, and lose yourself in the great ocean of the Infinite.

Where you find gentleness, patience, humbleness, kindness, self-control, selflessness, and deep compassion, look there for the highest wisdom, seek the company of such people, for they have realized the Divine, they live with the Eternal.

Problems exist only in our own self-created illusions, and they vanish away when we surrender our limitations.

Once you have surrendered, you leave behind you all confusion, and enter into simplicity, so profoundly simple. You will have realized the highest wisdom. You accomplish effortlessly, and all problems dissolve before you, for you have entered the region of Truth, and deal, not with changing effects, but with the unchanging principles of things.

When a fierce storm is raging no one is angered by it, because they know it will quickly pass away, and when the storms of conflict are devastating nations; the wise ones, looking with the eye of Truth and compassion, know that it will pass away, and that out of the wreckage of broken hearts, which it leaves behind, the immortal sanctuary of Wisdom will be built.

Sublimely patient; infinitely compassionate; deep, silent, and pure, their very presence is a blessing; and when they speak people reflect upon their blessed words in their hearts, and rise to higher levels of awareness. Such are they whom have entered into the Infinite, whom by the power of absolute surrender have solved the sacred mystery of life.

These blessed people, leave for us, a pathway to follow, a legacy to fulfill. They have paved the way for us to become the peace we desire so earnestly outside of ourselves. May we each have the courage to claim our inheritance of peace, by first becoming the peace, through our thoughts, words and actions.

Getting Your Target

Friday, January 16th, 2009

What is health? Everyone wants this thing called health, and yet most people have never thought about what their “target of health” actually looks like. If you and your family were healthy, what would it be like?
It is like this: Imagine you are shooting a bow and arrow at a definite target and you have no idea what the target is. What do you think the chances are that you will hit the target? Not very good. Knowing what the target is dramatically increases the chances of you hitting the target. Everyone usually has some definition of health but that is kind of like saying the target is round. A definition doesn’t help much.

What would you feel like, what would your kids do, and what would life look like? Get a clear target of what you being healthy would actually be like. Instead of just shooting for some ambiguous non-defined target, figure out your target. How much energy will you have, what will happen to your symptoms and disease, and how else will you be free? Simply knowing your target dramatically increases the odds of you hitting it.

So what is “true” health? Let me begin to show you by pointing out what is not health.

When you wake up in the morning, do you spring out of bed, full of energy and vitality? Or do you hit the snooze bar two, three, or even nine times before you get out of bed? This, my friend, is a symptom. It is something that you think is part of life, part of working hard, part of whatever, and you accept it as the way it is, when it is nothing more than a lack of health. Because if you were healthy, you would wake up in the morning and get out of bed easily, with abundant energy.

Are you in a good mood all the time? Happy and fulfilled? Your moods are in direct relationship to your health, and when you are not as healthy as you could be, you are not as happy or happy as often as you could be, because of your lack of health. Happiness is just a certain chemical state in your body. Emotions are literally just different chemical reactions in the body. Different chemicals present in different amounts, and this is what produces different moods and emotions. That is why the medical profession gives drugs to try to change peoples’ chemistry when they are depressed. If you can change the chemistry correctly, the moods and emotions of that person will change. If you are not abundantly happy and happy most of the time, that is a symptom.

As you go through the day, do you have high levels of energy to do whatever you want to do? Do you have energy levels to carry you right through the day? Or do you get sluggish and tired during parts of the day, especially after lunch? This is a symptom.

Do you experience stress? This is a symptom as well. Why is it that one air traffic controller goes home stressed out of his mind, and another air traffic controller sitting right next to him goes home perfectly fine? What is the difference? It is not the job. They both have the same job. The difference is how the individual people respond to the different situations. The healthier you are, the less stress you experience, no matter what is happening in the environment.

There are many more things, just like this, that many people accept as something they “have to” have, something they just must deal with because of circumstances. And this is simply not true.
The full potential of health, to me, is that of a four- year-old child.

When is the last time someone had to fight you to get you to go to bed at night? When is the last time someone had to bargain with you to get you to take a nap? When is the last time you ran to the car, just because you could? Or even better, had a contest to see who could run “over there” the quickest, and then when you got there, had a contest to run back to exactly where you started? Or just ran anywhere, simply because you could and because you were in love with life, and wanted to do as much as possible? You don’t see kids getting up in the morning, rubbing their eyes, scratching their butts, staggering around with their cup of juice, reading their Fisher-Price books before they finally wake up. When kids get up, they are up, ready to take on the day. This is starting, and I mean only starting, to point to what having health really and fully means.

You can begin to start forming what your target of health actually looks like. In one of the later lessons I am going to help you form your target of health.
